Mr. Speaker, I am indeed proud of Jeremy Wedallas, a 12-year-old from Erin, Ontario, who recently wrote me a letter, visited my office, and was welcomed by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans as well.
He outlined his concerns about ocean ecology. Jeremy pointed out three areas of importance to him related to the preservation of our fishery: shark finning, bycatch and bottom trawling.
He stated that he was pleased that Canada had banned shark finning, where sharks were caught, the fins were cut off, and the shark was thrown....More

Simms Congratulates Pope Productions on Release of the Mini-Series “Above and Beyond”
October 27, 2006, GANDER, NL;
Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor congratulates Pope Productions on the completion of the two part mini-series “Above and Beyond”, which will be aired on CBC Television on October 29th and 30th.
“I congratulate Paul Pope, Senior Producer of Pope Productions and his team on producing
this excellent re-creation about the dedicated civilian pilots who risked their lives in
delivering aircraft to England in World War II, says Simms. “I am happy that this dedicated
group of pilots are honoured through this production”.
In the early part of World War II, aircraft had been shipped by sea and often arrived
damaged or not at all due to enemy submarine attacks. It was not know at the time whether
the flight from North America to Europe could be made. Subsequently, through the skill,
determination, and dedication these heroic pilots were able to deliver some 10,000 aircraft
and are credited to have played a major role in the outcome of the war.
“As a Member of the Heritage Committee, I am very proud of the talent that we have in the
film industry in our province. The production of this drama was ably done by Pope and
Sturla Gunnarsson and their team of talented and dedicated individuals,” says Simms.
Simms was very happy to see that the majority of the filming for this series was done in
Gander, the original departure point for the Ferry Command. As well, he is pleased with the
economic spin off the project provided and encourages everyone to watch this local
historical series.
